The origins of Messentrekker
2016, the idea came from Roy Thijssen from the Heart Foundation Stichting Hart to turn the negative nick name knife-fighters for Oss to a positive connotation. Roy said, "I wanted to do something good for my town and launching a nice specialty beer seemed like a good idea." Soon he involved the Muifel Brewery and with great enthusiasm we got to work right away. The unique ingredients in the Messentrekker are the cranberries of the local hob and barley growers Landerij VanTosse. In addition the Messentrekker is brewed in Oss. This makes it rightly a regional beer.
Besides the fact that we wanted to put the 'nick-name' on the map positively, part of the proceeds from the Messentrekker beer also funds a local charity. This is a truly fantastic joint collaboration between the Heart Foundation Stichting Hart for Oss - for and by Oss and the Muifelbrewery.
The creator's creator, Roy Thijssen:
The Messentrekker bottle opener. My father's pocketknife. Born and raised Ossenaar from 't Vierhuukske. The blade with a nail-notch, the wooden handle with hinge connection points compose the characteristic shape. In my mind I see him sitting there, making his fishing line in order along the Meuse. Shortening the last end of the rig with his pocketknife. Dad cheers!
Please note, it is an opener and not a knife, so it is not sharp!
