The year 2002
It all started in 2002 in the small Maas town of Megen, located north of Oss. The Muifel was born in Megen (click here for the story of the Muifelbrouwerij). Martin made his first hobby brews in small boilers of about 20 liters. Within already a few years Martin took on his ‘childhood’ dream of brewing beer to a next level.
The birth of the Muifel in 2006
The moment it really started was at the end of 2006 when Martin received a phone call from an advertisement company in Den Bosch. This Advertisement company wanted to have a great Christmas present for their customers. As it turned out, the Advertisement company had tasted the Zuster Agatha and wanted to have 500 litres in large bottles (150cl). Wow!....brewing 500 liters! That would be too much to take on at ones. In 2006 Martin founded the Muifel brewery to start taking orders. The question at first was how do we produce the 500 liters of Zuster Agatha?! Martin went on a hunt to find a brewer and soon found the Maasland brewery in Oss. Eventually the first brew of Zuster Agatha was produced and bottled in in large (150cl) bottles and the Muifel brewery was a fact! And now….many years later, we have a great brewery in the Vikingenstraat in Oss. However, this trip wasn't that easy! In the years to follow, the Muifel beers were brewed by colleagues in Hillegom, Amsterdam, Sittard, Kaatsheuvel, Schijndel and at Lochristi.
2006 - 2016
During this period the Muifel brewery was growing as it was also making more recipes. The production was stored in an old converted pigsty near Megen. From there, distribution took place for the deliveries throughout the Netherlands. The Muifel kept growing ever since and in 2016 it required a larger venue. The new venue allowed the Muifel to grow further and Martin’s ‘childhood’ dream developed to reality.
2016 - 2019
By this time, we moved to another new venue in the Vikingenweg in Oss. Would this venue provide the required space?! Are we sure? An own brewery? Yes, we said, we must have our own brewery! After a few successful crowdfunding campaigns in February 2018 (within 48 hours the target amount was exceeded by 10%) we were able order our own brew systems.
Our brew system was built by Meto Machinery in Jinan, China. We inspected this installation in the summer of 2018, and it arrived in Oss like an Ikea kit. The installation completed in October 2018.
After a few trial months the first brew could be produced in January 2019. The opening party in February 2019 was a resounding success with a special guest, the Commissioner of the King Wim van de Donk (Lover of the Sister Agatha).
